Christmas ran over Thanksgiving - Notes From the Journey

Christmas ran over Thanksgiving

Turkey tells it like it is.

Turkey tells it like it is.

This photo has been popping around social media lately and while it is funny, it proves  a point.

Listen, my Father owns a store.  I understand the retail world is driven by sales.  I also understand Thanksgiving does not promote great sales of products.  I also understand that the Christmas season provides the bulk of income for many stores.  But We as people must not let the Christmas rush run over Thanksgiving.  We need to stop ourselves and really think about what each mean.  My pastor, Mark Fox, shared on his blog about not parking your life under a sign about fixating on the sign or symbols in life.  He said “They are signs, not to be exalted or to even fixate on like a child. They are the means to an end, but they are not the end.”  The point is we can’t forget that the sign and symbols should point us to the real thing!

Christmas is about celebrating that the God of the universe chose to come to live and experience the human life (perfectly) and die to give us life. His give of life through His death reunites Father God with His children. Christmas celebrates giving and family but they should point back to Jesus.

Even Santa Kneels before Christ!

But let us FIRST celebrate Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving should remind us to be thankful to God for all he has done for us but even more thankful for who He is! Let us not rush Thanksgiving or Christmas but celebrate both for the right reasons!
