Sunday May 25, 2008

I had a great weekend.  I headed up to the mountains early Friday morning.  I got to John’s River Valley Camp.  I unloaded at the dinning hall and at the room.  I sat around and talked with the Hedrick family and relaxed.  My aunt & uncle (Donna & Harley) got in around lunch time.  We were all tired so we got our naps in after wards.  I had a nice relaxing afternoon.  I relaxed around the river talked and enjoyed the beautiful weather.  After supper as sat around with the Hedrick clan and their fire pit.  We even has s’mores Saturday we awoke to a slow steady rain.  After breakfast, I took my camera and captured some photos of God’s beautiful creation.  The rain cleared off by lunch.  After lunch, I spend some time in a hammock and down by the river.  The kids had a kickball game after supper and then everyone enjoyed homemade ice cream (chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, and banana).  It was a cool evening but the fire pit was nice.  Sunday mornings the men do the cooking.  My Uncle, Rex, Tim, and myself cooked eggs, bacon, toast and grits for everyone.  After breakfast, we had church.  Jan thanked everyone for helping around the camp over the weekend.  We welcomed the first timers.  Then we had prayer, sang a hymn.  and then I gave the short sermon.  I shared about family and how we show God’s love to the world.  It went very well.  Everyone then pitched in to camp clean up.  Several families headed home, some went to Grandfather Mountain, and the rest of us took it easy and headed out after lunch.  It was a quiet ride home and I got to reflect on the weekend.  It is always a sweet time with family and friends.  God is so gracious to give me this weekend of rest and relaxation before the business of the next few weeks.
